Trail Way
Double features leads to only one winner with a full moon on the farm.
Sean Campbell knew that his time in victory lane was coming and what a fitting way to put to rest the back injuries that he sustained this time last year. Last year Sean was in dominant form only to have a heat race crash put an end to his season with a broken back.
This year Sean switched to a Henchcraft chassis and has been getting faster and faster each week as he dialed the new car into his driving style. Obviously by winning both features this week, he has managed to dial the car into speed mode and will be a force to be reckoned with at Trail Way for the rest of the year.
The make up feature started the evenings race program and at that time Sean “Open Trailer Outlaw” Campbell, formally know as the “Landsdale Laser” began his domination of the evenings activities. Charging from his 4th starting position, Campbell took control of the lead on lap 4 and was not challenged until late in the race when Jeremy Lynch started to close. Eighth place starter, Lynch tried multiple times to pass Sean but to no avail.
In the evenings normal Sidewinder Sprint feature, it was the “Open Trailer Outlaw” (OTO) again making short work of the field in his Suzuki powered Henchcraft. At the start however it was Sean’s brother Jim that was set to make it a family affair night by streaking to the lead until he succumbed on lap 3 by losing his left rear wheel. Taking over from Jim at the pointy end of the field was one of the up and coming young guns, James Shaw in his Yamaha powered Probe. James led for the next 9 laps until OTO made the winning pass on lap 13. With many teams trying to come to grips with the seemingly unlimited horsepower on the dry slick conditions causing multiple cautions, the feature event became more of a marathon rather than a sprint race. After the race everyone noticed the fantastic looking full moon and all teams were eager to blame the full moon for the uncharacteristic marathon main event.
In victory lane Sean shared “ A huge thanks to Ray for helping work on the car and drink beer with me every week. Keystone Insures Group / Steely & Smith have come on board to help out this year and its great to get a couple of wins for them. Speed Equipment Corp, Torodyne, Schlauch Race Cars, Roach Wings and Guhl Motors are also helping us get this Henchcraft chassis into victory lane.” Campbell added “ This time last year I crashed and received multiple vertebrae fractures that put an end to my season, so its great to come back one year later and do something that hardly ever happens, winning two features in the night. I look forward to waking my wife Carrie when I get home so she can share the moment.”
When asked about racing with the Sidewinder Sprints OTO had this to say, “ It really comes down to driver and car setup. There is so much power that most of the time you control the car with the throttle. I was only ever wide open from ½ way down the straights until the corner entry, then coming off the corner, you really need to feed the power back on slowly to keep the car under you. They are very challenging to drive, especially when the tracks slick off like tonight.”

This Weeks Question;
Q. With double features on the line, will we see a shake up at the top of the points chase?
A. Both points leaders (Mertz and Greth) had mixed results in both features which pretty much evened out the points battle on the night.
Q. Shawn Seifert is overdue for a win in 2008. Will this week be the break through week?
A. Shawn had a tough night but with his skill and experience it’s only a matter of time before he checks into victory lane.
Next Weeks Questions;
Q. Now that Sean Campbell has taken his Henchcraft into victory lane in 2008, can the 2007 Sidewinder Sprints champion, Donnie Hendershot prove that his Henchcraft is still the car to beat at Path Valley this week?
