Greth charges to win on a long rain delayed night at the track.
The radar showed the rain front would strike Path Valley right around the 7pm starting time. It didn’t lie. With all the teams pitside, the track soaked up the water causing a long rain delay. All cars helped run in the track, including the Mini Stocks and Thunder Cars ( our thanks to both of these classes for helping run in the track but not racing and graciously agreeing to run double features next week as to not risk tearing up a very soft surface).
For the first eleven laps it looked like it would be the returning track champion, Donnie Hendershot that would have his break through 2008 win, until Donnie tried a lower line to pass lapped cars coming off turn two and managed to hit some of the “wetter” track conditions spinning his car to the infield.
At that point Ryan Greth took over the lead and was not to be headed for the final 9 laps. Jason Morrison bought his Mr. Dent sponsored, Kawasaki powered Hyper home in 2nd followed by Denny Landvater’s Keystone Siding sponsored, Suzuki powered Hyper in 3rd.
Denny showed great form, even putting on a stunt display during the feature by riding the back straight wall, driving on two wheels heading into turn 3….normally a recipe for disaster but Denny was able to gather it up and take the checker with his best finish of the season.
Greth, by virtue of his win, regains the lead in the chase for the coveted Hyper Cup and had this to say following his feature win, “ I would like to thank Path Valley for their efforts in getting the show in last night after the rain. Most racks would have given up and with the rising fuel costs we really appreciate the extra efforts so the night’s racing is not lost. The track surface was very fast and smooth. Thanks to my Dad, Barry for another great setup on our Hyper Racing, Yamaha powered Hyper chassis. He was able to free my car up enough on the tacky racing surface to enable us to come through the field from my 8th place starting position.”
When Ryan was asked about the upcoming events, he said “one race that he is really looking forward to will be the Super 600 Showdown (www.super600showdown.com) and especially the 600cc / Sidewinder Sprint wingless challenge race that day. Performing double duty on that day will be a tremendous challenge, with the potential to race his Hyper Racing cars over 110 laps around the high banked Lanco track.” Ryan is a previous Super 600 Showdown $10K winner and has started performing “double duty” to dial in his 600cc car for the Pa 600 Speed week shows. (www.pa600speedweek.com)
Only another 3 weeks until the Sidewinder Sprints join the $10K to win Super 600 Showdown (www.super600showdown.com) race at Lanco on July 5th. The Sidewinders will compete in their own 20 lap winged feature event before taking the wings off to compete in the 20 lap Sidewinder / 600cc wingless challenge race.
