Full moon on the farm….
While the Sidewinder Sprints waited patiently through the multiple caution and red light stoppages during the 270 and 600 features, we never thought that we would also become a race of attrition. It was only after our feature that mention was made of the full moon and it’s associated curse on racing.
It all started badly on the first lap for the Sidewinders when the field checked up in turn 1 to avoid an out of shape front row, resulting in the two Sidewinder Sprints founders (Jason Morrison and Rohan Beasley) making contact. This “incidental” contact caused Jason to spin and sit facing the oncoming traffic. It wasn’t long before he was collected by the 72 of James Shaw and the 07 of Jared Hudson and all three cars forced to retire.
The full moon curse also continued later in the event when the current Sidewinder Sprints points leader , Chad Hough got together with a spinning Beasley in turn 2 resulting in both cars turning over. Hough sustained enough damage to force him pit side for the remainder of the event. Beasley continued on with wing damage and managed to finish 7th.
Earlier in the evening’s first heat, Mark Strickler ( The Workshop) took a nasty hit into the front straight wall after riding over the rear of the 1H of Rick Hench who’s car slowed dramatically during the start of the heat. Mark’s night went from bad to worse in the 600cc feature when he tagged the front straight wall for a 2nd time before flipping wildly down the front stretch resulting in a concussion and two broken race cars. (the full moon curse was at maximum effect for the #38 team)
The big story of the night besides the carnage was the win for Brent Marks in the debut of his Yamaha powered Predator. Brent was fortunate to miss the early dramas and found himself swapping positions for the lead with Rick Hench for multiple laps, before pulling away for a comfortable win.
Brent’s immaculate looking Predator will definitely be a tough contender for the “Best Appearing Car” award this year.
In victory lane Brent thanked “MAC Medical, Memtec Services Inc. ,Yiengst Fabrication, Karen Marks Hair Center, TJ's Body Shop,VRP Shocks and his car owner Terry Ford for providing him with such a fast car.”
Sidewinder Sprints now have 7 different chassis manufacturers and it will be interesting to see how the year’s results reflect the parity of the chassis and engine combinations.
Parity has a new addition to the club with Predator joining the fray. The top 5 cars being; Yamaha powered Predator, Yamaha powered Henchcraft, Suzuki powered RTS, Yamaha powered Stallard and a Kawasaki powered Probe.

This week’s question;
Q. Q. With Hyper Racing cars the top 3 in points. Can another chassis manufacturer make a charge into the top 3 positions. ( likely candidates, Tim Martz – RTS, Mark Strickler- Stallard, Rick Hench – Henchcraft, Shawn Seifert – Probe)
A.. With misfortune affecting the points leading Hyper cars, and Tim Mertz showing great consistency. The answer is yes… with Tim’s RTS chassis joining Chad Hough’s Hyper on top of the season points standings.
Next Weeks Question;
Q. Can Ryan Greth finally get his chain woes behind him and capitalize on his heat race speed ?
