When will spring arrive??

The cold opening night weather obviously kept some teams away from Path Valley and that set the stage for an interesting match up…

Hyper Racing and Henchcraft were by far the dominant chassis’s in attendance. Both manufacturers had 5 cars in attendance. Both manufacturers had 3 Yamahas and 2 Suzuki engines in their 5 cars. With overwhelming odds stacked against them, Tim Mertz (the lone RTS chassis) and Mark Strickler (the lone Stallard chassis) knew they would be in for a tough night.

On this occasion, the victory in the night’s chassis showdown went to Hyper Racing with a combined total of 395 points to Henchcraft’s 382 points.

Ryan Greth was simply outstanding in leading the way for the Hyper Racing team. Ryan blistered the field in his heat race and came from the fifth starting position in the main event to claim the top honors and his first Sidewinder Sprints victory.

Ryan Greth and Greth Racing would like to thank, “Mike Dicely, Hyper Racing, SPAR Racing Engines, Seroskie Designs, Fords Painting and J&M Powder Coating for helping to propel the 2008 Hyper Chassis, SPAR Yamaha R1 #71 Sidewinder Sprint to Victory on Friday, March 28, 2008 at Path Valley Speedway.”  Ryan went on to say, “I also would like to say "thanks" to Rohan Beasley for loaning me a sprocket gear prior to the start of warm-ups.  I am proud to be a part of the Sidewinder Sprint division and look forward to the 2008 season.”

Hard charger of the night went to last years Sidewinder Sprints and Path Valley champion, Donnie Hendershot. After suffering fuel pump issues in his heat, Donnie charged from tenth into second and once again proved that team Hendershot will be a force at Path Valley this season.

Two weeks ago we mentioned Chad Hough and his impressions of his first Sidewinder Sprints race. It didn’t take long for Chad to get comfortable and prove his #10 Yamaha powered Hyper will be a force this season with a fine 3rd place finish.

Making his long awaited Sidewinder Sprints debut in his #3 Suzuki powered Henchcraft was Jim Campbell Jnr. Unfortunately Jim suffered from some new cars bugs and was unable to start the A Main. Jim commented that he loved the power and is looking forward to next weeks racing at Trail-Way.

The only engine not being raced last night was the Kawasaki. The finishing order was, Yamaha, Suzuki, Yamaha, Yamaha, Suzuki, Yamaha, Suzuki. This again shows great parity between the engine combinations.

This week’s question;

Q. Will Donnie Hendershot start the 2008 season where he left off in 2007?

A. So close…. Donnie started 10th due to problems in his heat and made it all the way up to 2nd and challenged for the lead at the last restart.

Next Weeks Question;

Q. Since this weeks 600cc heat race produced a race record (1:58.29) lowered from the previous 2:00.15, can the Sidewinder Sprints beat their own 8 lap track record (1:58:37) on the new track surface?

For a comparison some of the other 8 lap records;  358 sprints (1:50:35), 358 late models (2:08:59), Thunder Cars (2:30:00).
