Path Valley.. Mertz takes the win, Greth takes second…the shootout continues.  Finally a perfect weather night helped produce a perfect track surface that resulted in many teams expressing their gratitude to Path Valley for the increased “fun factor” from the super racy multi groove surface.

From his 3rd position on the grid, Tim Mertz was always going to be the one to beat. All year it seems that Mertz has “found something” to his liking at Path Valley and this night’s feature race was no exception.   >> read more

Trail-Way.. Greth takes the win and regains points lead

With perfect weather forecast and perfect track conditions not even another full moon could jinx the racing action.  The pressure is obviously mounting in the chase for the coveted Hyper Cup. Leading into the nights racing Tim Mertz had a 13 point lead. After the night’s action was completed, Ryan Greth regained the lead and now enters the last 7 races left with a 7 point lead. It looks like this points chase will go down to the wire.  >> read more

Path Valley.. Fleming powers to first Sidewinder win

On yet another Friday night rain delayed visit to Path Valley, it was Stan Fleming that made the most of his opportunities. Stan’s effort started with a heat race win from his outside front row starting position, continued with him pulling a 0 pill draw to set the feature field and finished the night in victory lane at the end of the Sidewinder Sprints feature.  >> read more

Trail-Way.. Mid Summer Rain Wins

With most of the cars already pit side, the darkening skies and frequent lightning only forewarned what the radar was showing. The next thunderstorm was on its way and the management of Trail-Way was left with no other option but to cancel the nights racing.  >> read more

Path Valley.. Mertz takes the win, Greth finishes first ????

On a perfect summer night, it looks like most of the Sidewinder teams decided it was a perfect time to hit the beach for their annual vacation. With the lowest car count in over a year, the view from the penalty box for the previous Path Valley winner, Tim Mertz looked a lot better than normal. This time Tim was able to start 6th instead of the regular penalty of 12th >> read more

Double features leads to only one winner with a full moon on the farm. Sean Campbell knew that his time in victory lane was coming and what a fitting way to put to rest the back injuries that he sustained this time last year. Last year Sean was in dominant form only to have a heat race crash put an end to his season with a broken back.  >> read more

 The Mertz juggernaut continues…..

With fantastic track conditions, a low line, a high line and slick through the middle, setting the stage for the Sidewinder Sprint feature to produce a passing /slide job spectacular, unfortunately Tim Mertz forgot to read the script. Tim blasted into the lead on a lap 7 restart, passing the Yamaha powered Henchcraft of Rick Hench and setting a pace that the rest of the field was unable to match. >> read more

July 5th Super 600 Showdown.  A long day…and night…but worth every minute …

Everyone knows Mike Rutherford is a hot shoe. At Lanco, Mike regularly wins multiple divisions every night. At the Super 600 Showdown, Mike had his first drive of a Sidewinder Sprint and performed exactly as expected. Setting fast time in qualifying by a mere .001 seconds over Tim Mertz, and with the “heads up” format, Mike streaked away to take his first ever Sidewinder Sprints win in Jason Morrison’s Mr. Dent sponsored Kawasaki powered Hyper chassis. >> read more

Not even a 2.30am feature could slow Tim Mertz.  Path Valley is overdue for some sunshine. When the teams arrived, the track was already prepared.  It looked fantastic. Smooth, banked and ready for action. Then along came mother nature for the umpteenth time this year and dumped precipitation for the next 2 hours. With 91 600’s pitside as part of the PA600Speedweek, Path Valley was not about to throw in the towel without a fight. >> read more

With heats completed on a fantastic multi-groove racing surface, unfortunately the rain came and forced the postponement of the nights racing action.

Trail-Way will make a decision Monday on if the Sidewinders are required to return on the Tuesday night 600cc Pa Speed Week rain-date, or since all of their qualifying is complete, if they will be scheduled for double features on their next visit.  >> read more

Greth takes the win and the Hyper Cup point lead on Keystone Siding night at Path Valley.  Is it summer yet? The rain continues to haunt Path Valley and Friday night was no different. Late afternoon rain left the track heavy and narrow for the nights racing action.  >> read more

Mertz takes a dominant win and regains the point lead in the Hyper Cup.  On a dry slick track, no one expected Tim Mertz to do the unthinkable.  On an all or nothing roll of the dice, Tim made the decision to try and run the top on the opening lap and in doing so found the fast way around the lap one bottleneck propelling his mount from his tenth place starting position towards the front of the field.  >> read more

Greth charges to win on a long rain delayed night at the track. The radar showed the rain front would strike Path Valley right around the 7pm starting time. It didn’t lie. With all the teams pitside, the track soaked up the water causing a long rain delay. All cars helped run in the track, including the Mini Stocks and Thunder Cars ( our thanks to both of these classes for helping run in the track but not racing and graciously agreeing to run double features next week as to not risk tearing up a very soft surface).>> read more

Our season so far…Snow…Racing…Rain… Racing…. Heat….Tornado ??????? On what started out as a stifling 98 degree, high humidity, dripping sweat just standing still type of day, no one ever thought that we would end up rained out with no power and almost blown away.  The second Sidewinder Sprints heat was on the track when the tornado like weather swept through the area bringing relief from the heat but to everyone’s dismay a lightning strike nearby caused the track to lose power forcing the cancellation.  >> read more

Mertz finally ends bad luck to claim victory.  Tim Mertz is one of the original Sidewinder Sprints teams. All last year Mertz was fast, leading many races only to have the worst luck. Injectors would stick, fuses would blow, parts would break and lapped traffic would slow his speed at the worst possible time allowing the 2nd place car to capitalize. It was only a matter of time until Tim visited victory lane.  >> read more

Morrison takes first Path Valley win.  With another beautifully prepared racing surface (read; fast, fast, fast), Jason Morrison had his Kawasaki powered Hyper Racing car hooked up and downright flying.  With lap times in the feature event running at the 10.7 second mark (compared to the 410 sprint cars that used to lap in the high 9 second bracket), it became a fast and furious battle of stamina and car set up with a lot of cars still very tight on the tacky racing surface requiring even more effort from the drivers.  >> read more

Greth beats the rain to take the win.  On yet another evening with rain in the forecast, Trail-Way Speedway went into “speed up” the show mode eliminating the intermission and running through the program as fast as possible.  Ryan Greth displayed his prowess and ability to “speed up” his show with a fantastic start, gaining multiple positions on the first lap. From there Ryan faced constant pressure from the 2nd place finisher, 3rd place starter, Sean Campbell. Both cars sped to a handy lead over the field but it was in the middle of the pack that the action really heated up. >> read more

Brent Marks is the first to double up in 2008 Sidewinder Sprints.

With over 2 inches of rain in South Central Pennsylvania on Thursday night and most of the day Friday, almost all of the normal Friday Night tracks cancelled, the exception being Path Valley. Obviously we were in for a “heavy” track and the track crew really needs to be commended for even being able to get the surface race ready under such trying conditions.  >> read more

Morrison sheds bridesmaid status to claim his first win.

On a night that many predicted would be again won by rain, Jason Morrison proved that his off season work in car setup and engine tuning was worth the effort by claiming his first Sidewinder Sprints victory.  >> read more

Full moon on the farm….

While the Sidewinder Sprints waited patiently through the multiple caution and red light stoppages during the 270 and 600 features, we never thought that we would also become a race of attrition. It was only after our feature that mention was made of the full moon and it’s associated curse on racing.  It all started badly on the first lap for the Sidewinders when the field checked up in turn 1 to avoid an out of shape front row, resulting in the two Sidewinder Sprints founders (Jason Morrison and Rohan Beasley) making contact.  >> read more

The action is heating up….

Last week we mentioned that Chad Hough was obviously quickly becoming used to the extra power of his Sidewinder Sprint with a fine 3rd place finish. This week Chad again proved his ability with a commanding win.  On a fantastic racing surface that provided plenty of passing, Chad made his way from his 3rd starting position to take the lead on the very first lap and was never headed for the next 19 laps. There was however, plenty of pressure being applied from Ryan Greth, Shawn Seifert and Tim Mertz. >> read more

When will spring arrive??

The cold opening night weather obviously kept some teams away from Path Valley and that set the stage for an interesting match up…   Hyper Racing and Henchcraft were by far the dominant chassis’s in attendance. Both manufacturers had 5 cars in attendance. Both manufacturers had 3 Yamahas and 2 Suzuki engines in their 5 cars. With overwhelming odds stacked against them, Tim Mertz (the lone RTS chassis) and Mark Strickler (the lone Stallard chassis) knew they would be in for a tough night.>> read more

Opening Day basked in sunshine..

With bad weekend weather forecast all week, Saturday’s season opener at Trail-Way ended up basked in sunshine with a touch of déjà vu in so much as Jeremy “ Jay Dog” Lynch was able to repeat his 2007 opening day success and take the win in the 2008 Sidewinder Sprints season opener.

The Sidewinder Sprints have continued to grow in numbers with 17 cars turning out for the 2008 opener (Over 100% growth from the 8 cars at the 2007 season opener). Many teams are still completing preparations for the 2008 season and car counts will continue to grow in the coming weeks. >> read more
